| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Colonel Craig Hunter, who is retiring on August 31, |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | 2017, as director of Law Enforcement for the Texas Parks and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | Wildlife Department after more than three decades of outstanding |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | state service; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Colonel Hunter joined the Texas Parks and Wildlife |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Department in 1984 as a game warden; his first assignment was in |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Montgomery County, where he was one of the first to use a decoy |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | deer to catch illegal night hunters; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, He went on to hold numerous leadership positions |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | within the department; he served as supervisor of the Internal |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Affairs Unit, the Executive Protection Team, Field Operations, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | and the Special Operations Unit; he also served in Governor Rick |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Perry's Special Operations Group and on the Homeland Security |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Council; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Colonel Hunter supervised hundreds of criminal |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | investigations and a number of emergency response teams; he led a |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | group of Texas game wardens to New Orleans in the aftermath of |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Hurricane Katrina, and the group was credited with more than |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | 5,000 rescues; he holds a commission as an agent with the United |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | States Fish and Wildlife Service, and in 1998, he became the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | first Texas game warden to graduate from the Federal Bureau of |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Investigation National Academy; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, An exemplary public servant, Colonel Hunter is |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | respected and admired by his colleagues, and his presence with |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will be greatly missed; |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature, hereby commend Colonel Craig Hunter on his exceptional |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | service to the people of Texas during his career with the Texas |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Parks and Wildlife Department and extend to him best wishes for |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | continued success in all his endeavors; and, be it further |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
