11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 849
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 recognize Colonel Craig Hunter, who is retiring on August 31,
44 2017, as director of Law Enforcement for the Texas Parks and
55 Wildlife Department after more than three decades of outstanding
66 state service; and
77 WHEREAS, Colonel Hunter joined the Texas Parks and Wildlife
88 Department in 1984 as a game warden; his first assignment was in
99 Montgomery County, where he was one of the first to use a decoy
1010 deer to catch illegal night hunters; and
1111 WHEREAS, He went on to hold numerous leadership positions
1212 within the department; he served as supervisor of the Internal
1313 Affairs Unit, the Executive Protection Team, Field Operations,
1414 and the Special Operations Unit; he also served in Governor Rick
1515 Perry's Special Operations Group and on the Homeland Security
1616 Council; and
1717 WHEREAS, Colonel Hunter supervised hundreds of criminal
1818 investigations and a number of emergency response teams; he led a
1919 group of Texas game wardens to New Orleans in the aftermath of
2020 Hurricane Katrina, and the group was credited with more than
2121 5,000 rescues; he holds a commission as an agent with the United
2222 States Fish and Wildlife Service, and in 1998, he became the
2323 first Texas game warden to graduate from the Federal Bureau of
2424 Investigation National Academy; and
2525 WHEREAS, An exemplary public servant, Colonel Hunter is
2626 respected and admired by his colleagues, and his presence with
2727 the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will be greatly missed;
2828 now, therefore, be it
2929 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
3030 Legislature, hereby commend Colonel Craig Hunter on his exceptional
3131 service to the people of Texas during his career with the Texas
3232 Parks and Wildlife Department and extend to him best wishes for
3333 continued success in all his endeavors; and, be it further
3434 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him
3535 as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
