| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize San Marcos Primitive Baptist Church in Luling on the |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | auspicious occasion of its 164th anniversary; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Named for its proximity to the San Marcos River, |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | San Marcos Primitive Baptist Church was established on April 30, |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | 1853, by charter members William Baker, Vashti Baker, Hannah |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Daniels, I. D. Owen, and Sylvanna Daniels; around 1869, the original |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | church was destroyed in a flash flood, and the current sanctuary |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | was constructed in 1886; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Over the years, the church has ministered faithfully |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | to the needs of innumerable Christians; it has been an invaluable |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | source of strength for members in times of hardship and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | bereavement and a source of fellowship in times of prosperity and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | celebration; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Under the guidance and wise stewardship of its |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | pastors and under the outstanding leadership of its current |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | pastor, Elder Phil Nigh, the church has continued to grow and to |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | undertake many worthy projects in the community; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, San Marcos Primitive Baptist Church is one of the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | oldest churches in Texas, and it was honored with an Official |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Texas Historical Marker in May of 1985; congregants celebrated |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | the church's 164th anniversary with a special ceremony on May 6, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | 2017; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to the clergy and members |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | of San Marcos Primitive Baptist Church on the joyous occasion of |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | its 164th anniversary; and, be it further |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the |

| 30 | 30 | | church as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
