SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 853
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the Valley High School track team, which won the 2017
University Interscholastic League Class 1A state championship; and
WHEREAS, Valley High School won its first state
championship on the strength of record-setting performances in
the 3200 meter race, the 1600 meter race, the 800 meter race, and
a first place finish in the 4x200 meter relay; and
WHEREAS, These student athletes demonstrated great talent
and perseverance over the course of the year, and they can take
great pride in their outstanding performance; team members are
Jake Merrell, Adrian Espinoza, Joe Carrera, Dax Allen, Jayton
Smith, Juan Villarreal, and Tristen Schlueter; and
WHEREAS, Under the outstanding leadership and expertise of
head coach Brandon Smith, the Patriots have developed outstanding
teamwork and discipline; and
WHEREAS, The people of Quitaque and Turkey are proud of the
members of the Patriots track team for their hard work, their
impressive skills, and their fine sportsmanship; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Valley High School
track team on their successful season and extend congratulations
to them on winning the 2017 Class 1A state championship; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the team as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
