| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the Valley High School track team, which won the 2017 |

| 4 | 4 | | University Interscholastic League Class 1A state championship; and |

| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Valley High School won its first state |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | championship on the strength of record-setting performances in |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | the 3200 meter race, the 1600 meter race, the 800 meter race, and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | a first place finish in the 4x200 meter relay; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, These student athletes demonstrated great talent |

| 10 | 10 | | and perseverance over the course of the year, and they can take |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | great pride in their outstanding performance; team members are |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Jake Merrell, Adrian Espinoza, Joe Carrera, Dax Allen, Jayton |

| 13 | 13 | | Smith, Juan Villarreal, and Tristen Schlueter; and |

| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Under the outstanding leadership and expertise of |

| 15 | 15 | | head coach Brandon Smith, the Patriots have developed outstanding |

| 16 | 16 | | teamwork and discipline; and |

| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, The people of Quitaque and Turkey are proud of the |

| 18 | 18 | | members of the Patriots track team for their hard work, their |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | impressive skills, and their fine sportsmanship; now, therefore, |

| 21 | 21 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |

| 22 | 22 | | Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Valley High School |

| 23 | 23 | | track team on their successful season and extend congratulations |

| 24 | 24 | | to them on winning the 2017 Class 1A state championship; and, be |
