| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Major General Lester Simpson, who has retired after |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | more than 36 years of outstanding service with the United States |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | Army National Guard; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Major General Simpson was commissioned in 1980 |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | through the Reserve Officers' Training Corps program at The |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | University of Texas at Arlington; he holds a master's degree in |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Strategic Studies and is a graduate of the CAPSTONE General and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Flag Officer Course in Washington, D.C.; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of his distinguished military |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | career, he held numerous leadership and command positions; he |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | served as commander of the 3rd Battalion, 144th Infantry |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Regiment, and of the 142nd Rear Operations Center; in 2011, he |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | commanded the 176th Engineer Brigade during major combat |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | operations in support of Operation Enduring Freedom; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, He went on to serve as assistant adjutant general |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | of the Texas Army National Guard, as special assistant to the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | director of the Army National Guard, and as commander of the 36th |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Infantry Division; his many awards and decorations include the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, and the Defense Meritorious |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Service Medal; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, An exemplary officer, he is respected and admired |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | by his fellow officers and enlisted personnel alike, and it is |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | truly fitting that he receive special recognition for his |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | exceptional service to the nation; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby commend Major General Lester Simpson on his |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | exceptional service as an officer in the United States Army |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | National Guard and extend to him best wishes for continued |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | success in all his endeavors; and, be it further |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

| 33 | 33 | | him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
