4	4	Joseph Ray Perry
5	5	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
6	6	commemorates the life of Joseph Ray Perry, who died
7	7	April 27, 2017, at the age of 92; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Ray Perry was an exemplary citizen and a
9	9	hardworking West Texas farmer who loved his land and was
10	10	dedicated to serving his community; and
11	11	WHEREAS, He was born on April 23, 1925, in the Haskell
12	12	County community of Paint Creek to Hoyt and Thelma Perry; a
13	13	lifelong resident of Haskell County, he served the nation with
14	14	distinction in the United States Army Air Corps during World War
15	15	II; he flew 35 missions over Nazi Germany as a tail gunner in B-17
16	16	bombers, and he was awarded multiple medals for his exemplary
17	17	service; and
18	18	WHEREAS, He married Amelia June Holt at the Haskell
19	19	Methodist Church on June 29, 1948, and the couple enjoyed nearly
20	20	70 years of marriage together; they raised two children, Milla
21	21	Perry Jones and James Richard "Rick" Perry, and they were blessed
22	22	with three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and
23	23	WHEREAS, In addition to working his land, Ray Perry was
24	24	active in a wide range of political and community endeavors; he
25	25	served for nearly 30 years as a Haskell County commissioner and
26	26	for 10 years as a member of the Paint Creek school board; he
27	27	served for six years on the West Central Texas Council of
28	28	Governments, and he was instrumental in the creation of the Paint
29	29	Creek Water Corporation and twice served as its president; and
30	30	WHEREAS, An avid hunter and outdoorsman, he was known for
31	31	his numerous wild game trophies; one of the highlights of his
32	32	hunting trips was killing an Alaskan first-class caribou that has
33	33	been listed in the Guinness Book of World Records; and
34	34	WHEREAS, Ray Perry was a man of courage, faith, and
35	35	patriotism; he gave unselfishly to others and to his community,
36	36	and his enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest will not be
37	37	forgotten by those who were privileged to share in his life; and
38	38	WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather,
39	39	and he leaves behind memories that will be cherished forever by
40	40	his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
41	41	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
42	42	Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
43	43	family of Joseph Ray Perry; and, be it further
44	44	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
45	45	his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
46	46	Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
47	47	memory of Joseph Ray Perry.
