SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 865 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the City of Dallas for the vital role it has played in the growth and progress of the Lone Star State; and WHEREAS, On June 6, 1936, the Texas Centennial Exposition opened at Fair Park in Dallas; the celebration of science, industry, culture, and the arts attracted more than six million people, and it helped bring the relatively unknown City of Dallas into the national spotlight; and WHEREAS, In preparation for the historic event, Fair Park was modernized with the iconic art deco architecture of the era; for 75 years, the architectural features constructed for the exposition have served as an impressive backdrop for the State Fair of Texas; and WHEREAS, The Texas Centennial Exposition displayed to the world the ability of the City of Dallas to host national events and the Lone Star State's sophistication in the fields of science and technology; in the decades that followed, Texas became renowned for its diverse and robust economy and its many acclaimed cultural arts programs; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, hereby honor the City of Dallas for promoting the strength and vitality of our state and extend best wishes to its citizens for many more successful events in the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the city as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
