| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Members of Intocable are visiting the State |

| 3 | 3 | | Capitol on May 17, 2017, and this occasion provides an ideal |

| 4 | 4 | | opportunity to recognize this acclaimed norteño band for its |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | accomplishments; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, In the early 1990s, Ricky Javier Muñoz and René |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Orlando Martinez of Zapata founded Intocable, and they signed a |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | record contract with EMI while they were still in high school; |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | the group's third album, Llévame Contigo, soared to the top of |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | the Regional Mexican album chart in 1996 and made the top five in |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | the broader Latin category, setting the stage for a remarkable |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | career; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Intocable expanded the audience for norteño by |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | incorporating elements from country music, rock, and pop, and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | over the years, it has scored a host of number one hits, including |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | "Robarte un Beso," "Prometí," and "Tu Ausencia"; with legions of |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | fans in the United States and Mexico, the group has sold out large |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | venues in both countries, and in 2003, it set a record at Reliant |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Stadium in Houston by drawing a crowd of more than 70,000; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Among myriad accolades, the group has received |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | multiple Univision Premio Lo Nuestro awards, as well as a pair of |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Grammy awards for the albums Intimamente and Classic; the band's |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | style has influenced numerous other Tejano and norteño acts, even |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | as it has continued to explore new musical avenues; in 2010, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Billboard magazine named it Mexican Regional Group of the Decade, |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | and two years later, at a Dallas Cowboys home game, Intocable |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | became the first norteño band to play an NFL halftime show; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Intocable celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2015 |

| 29 | 29 | | with the release of the album XX Aniversario en Vivo; the band |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | also played a live global telecast that year and donated the |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | proceeds to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, and it went on to |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | form a partnership with the hospital to continue raising funds in |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | its behalf; and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Transcending its genre while remaining one of its |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | most influential artists, Intocable has enriched the cultural |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | heritage of the Lone Star State, and it has brought joy to |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | innumerable people over the course of more than two decades; now, |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | Legislature, hereby honor Intocable for its contributions to |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | music and extend to the members sincere best wishes for continued |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | success; and, be it further |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

| 44 | 44 | | the band as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
