| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Texas State Artist designations are awarded |

| 6 | 6 | | to a select group of individuals to honor the exceptional quality |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | of their work and their outstanding commitment to the arts in |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Texas; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A truly worthy recipient of this prestigious |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | distinction, Carol Coffee Reposa is the author of four highly |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | regarded volumes of poetry--At the Border: Winter Lights, The |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Green Room, Facts of Life, and Underground Musicians--and her |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | poems, reviews, and essays have been accepted for publication in |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | such journals as the Atlanta Review, the Evansville Review, the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Texas Observer, and Southwestern American Literature; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Carol Coffee Reposa is the winner of the Guadalupe |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Cultural Arts Center Poetry Contest, and she has earned the San |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Antonio Public Library Arts and Letters Award, along with three |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Fulbright-Hays Fellowships and three nominations for the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Pushcart Prize; a professor emerita at San Antonio College since |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | 2010, she currently serves as the poetry editor of Voices de la |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Luna, and she was recently elected to the Texas Institute of |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Letters; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Widely admired for her immense talent, Carol |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Coffee Reposa has made important contributions to her chosen |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | field of artistic endeavor, and in so doing, she has enriched the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | cultural vitality of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |

| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate Carol Coffee Reposa on her |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | selection as the 2018 State Poet Laureate and extend to her |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
