SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 874
WHEREAS, The Texas Commission on the Arts has announced the
appointment of Beili Liu as the 2018 State Three-Dimensional
Artist; and
WHEREAS, The Texas State Artist designations are awarded
to a select group of individuals to honor the exceptional quality
of their work and their outstanding commitment to the arts in
Texas; and
WHEREAS, A native of Jilin, China, Beili Liu graduated with
a master's degree in fine arts from the University of Michigan at
Ann Arbor, and she currently serves as a professor of art at The
University of Texas at Austin; she creates installations that use
commonplace materials to express complex cultural narratives,
and her pieces have been included in both solo and group
exhibitions across the United States as well as in Asia and
Europe; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of her accomplishments, Beili Liu
has received grants from the Joan Mitchell Foundation, the
National Endowment for the Arts, and the Robert Rauschenberg
Foundation; in 2008, she received a San Francisco Mayor's Award
for her dedication to cultural exchange, and in 2011, she was
presented with a Distinction Award at the 2011 Kaunas Biennial in
Lithuania; and
WHEREAS, Widely admired for her immense talent, Beili Liu
has made important contributions to her chosen field of artistic
endeavor, and in so doing, she has enriched the cultural vitality
of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
Legislature, hereby congratulate Beili Liu on her selection as
the 2018 State Three-Dimensional Artist and extend to her sincere
best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
Beili Liu as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
