| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Commission on the Arts has announced the |

| 3 | 3 | | appointment of Beili Liu as the 2018 State Three-Dimensional |

| 4 | 4 | | Artist; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Texas State Artist designations are awarded |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | to a select group of individuals to honor the exceptional quality |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | of their work and their outstanding commitment to the arts in |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Texas; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A native of Jilin, China, Beili Liu graduated with |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | a master's degree in fine arts from the University of Michigan at |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Ann Arbor, and she currently serves as a professor of art at The |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | University of Texas at Austin; she creates installations that use |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | commonplace materials to express complex cultural narratives, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | and her pieces have been included in both solo and group |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | exhibitions across the United States as well as in Asia and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Europe; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, In recognition of her accomplishments, Beili Liu |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | has received grants from the Joan Mitchell Foundation, the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | National Endowment for the Arts, and the Robert Rauschenberg |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Foundation; in 2008, she received a San Francisco Mayor's Award |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | for her dedication to cultural exchange, and in 2011, she was |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | presented with a Distinction Award at the 2011 Kaunas Biennial in |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Lithuania; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Widely admired for her immense talent, Beili Liu |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | has made important contributions to her chosen field of artistic |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | endeavor, and in so doing, she has enriched the cultural vitality |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate Beili Liu on her selection as |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | the 2018 State Three-Dimensional Artist and extend to her sincere |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

| 33 | 33 | | Beili Liu as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
