SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 876 WHEREAS, The Texas Commission on the Arts has announced the appointment of Sedrick Huckaby as the 2018 State Two-Dimensional Artist; and WHEREAS, The Texas State Artist designations are awarded to a select group of individuals to honor the exceptional quality of their work and their outstanding commitment to the arts in Texas; and WHEREAS, A native of Fort Worth, Mr. Huckaby earned a bachelor of fine arts degree at Boston University and a master of fine arts degree at Yale; he spent time abroad as an Alice Kimball English Traveling Fellow and later received a visual arts fellowship from the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, Massachusetts; and WHEREAS, Mr. Huckaby currently serves as an assistant professor at The University of Texas at Arlington; his work is featured in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Minneapolis Institute of Art, and the Whitney Museum of American Art, and over the years, he has garnered numerous accolades, including a Guggenheim Fellowship and a Joan Mitchell Foundation grant; and WHEREAS, Widely admired for his immense talent, Sedrick Huckaby has made important contributions to his chosen field of artistic endeavor, and in so doing, he has enriched the cultural vitality of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, hereby congratulate Sedrick Huckaby on his selection as the 2018 State Two-Dimensional Artist and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for Mr. Huckaby as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
