5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and |

6 | 6 | | meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and |

7 | 7 | | friends of Barbara Diane Madden of Richardson, who passed away on |
---|
8 | 8 | | March 30, 2017, at the age of 74; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The former Barbara Szumachowski was born on |
---|
10 | 10 | | November 15, 1942, in Schenectady, New York, to Stephen and |
---|
11 | 11 | | Bernice Szumachowski; following her graduation from high school, |
---|
12 | 12 | | she was accepted to Ellis Hospital Nursing School, and she soon |
---|
13 | 13 | | thereafter met the love of her life, Jerry Madden, a cadet at West |
---|
14 | 14 | | Point Military Academy; after finishing school, the couple |
---|
15 | 15 | | exchanged wedding vows on June 20, 1965; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, While her husband continued his training in the |
---|
17 | 17 | | military, Mrs. Madden began her nursing career at Ellis |
---|
18 | 18 | | Hospital; the couple eventually relocated to Baumholder, |
---|
19 | 19 | | Germany, where Mr. Madden was stationed, and Mrs. Madden worked |
---|
20 | 20 | | on base as a school nurse at the German American School; when her |
---|
21 | 21 | | husband was overseas in Vietnam, she returned stateside and |
---|
22 | 22 | | devoted herself to raising their family, which grew to include |
---|
23 | 23 | | three children, Jerry, Stephanie, and Kristina; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, The family moved to Richardson, Texas, in 1971, |
---|
25 | 25 | | after the end of Mr. Madden's enlistment; embracing the Lone Star |
---|
26 | 26 | | State as her new home, Mrs. Madden served as a nurse in the infant |
---|
27 | 27 | | ward at Richardson Memorial Hospital before going on to work for |
---|
28 | 28 | | morethan20yearsatHeritageManorNursingHome,andshecared |
---|
29 | 29 | | for the residents there with the same compassion and sensitivity |
---|
30 | 30 | | that she had shown throughout her career; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, A member of the Anne Armstrong Republican Women's |
---|
32 | 32 | | Club and the Plano Republican Women's Club, Mrs. Madden also |
---|
33 | 33 | | generously supported her husband as he served as the Collin |
---|
34 | 34 | | County Republican Party chair and as a member of the Texas House |
---|
35 | 35 | | of Representatives; she was a faithful congregant at Saint Mark |
---|
36 | 36 | | the Evangelist Catholic Church in Plano, and she enjoyed watching |
---|
37 | 37 | | old movies and decorating her home for every season; to her loved |
---|
38 | 38 | | ones, she was always a pillar of strength, and she knew no greater |
---|
39 | 39 | | happiness than spending time with her husband, children, and |
---|
40 | 40 | | grandchildren; and |
---|
41 | 41 | | WHEREAS, Barbara Madden led a caring and purposeful life, |
---|
42 | 42 | | and she will forever be remembered with deep affection by all who |
---|
43 | 43 | | held her close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
---|
44 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
---|
45 | 45 | | Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Barbara Diane |
---|
46 | 46 | | Madden and extend sincere sympathy to all those who mourn her |
---|
47 | 47 | | passing; and, be it further |
---|
48 | 48 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
