                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 887
 WHEREAS, Meningococcal disease is a serious health problem
 in Texas and across the country, and vaccinations play an
 important role in helping to stem outbreaks of the disease; and
 WHEREAS, This potentially fatal disease most commonly
 affects young people between the ages of 16 and 23; because of low
 vaccination rates, there have been numerous instances of
 meningitis B on college campuses in recent years; and
 WHEREAS, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
 recommends that young adults consult with health care
 professionals about being vaccinated against the disease; and
 WHEREAS, Meningococcal disease can be prevented through
 proper vaccination, and a greater awareness about the disease
 would be beneficial to the health and well-being of many Texans;
 now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
 Legislature, hereby encourage the public to learn more about
 meningococcal disease and the role vaccination plays in its
 prevention; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
 recognition of this important subject.
