11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 887
22 WHEREAS, Meningococcal disease is a serious health problem
33 in Texas and across the country, and vaccinations play an
44 important role in helping to stem outbreaks of the disease; and
55 WHEREAS, This potentially fatal disease most commonly
66 affects young people between the ages of 16 and 23; because of low
77 vaccination rates, there have been numerous instances of
88 meningitis B on college campuses in recent years; and
99 WHEREAS, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
1010 recommends that young adults consult with health care
1111 professionals about being vaccinated against the disease; and
1212 WHEREAS, Meningococcal disease can be prevented through
1313 proper vaccination, and a greater awareness about the disease
1414 would be beneficial to the health and well-being of many Texans;
1515 now, therefore, be it
1616 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
1717 Legislature, hereby encourage the public to learn more about
1818 meningococcal disease and the role vaccination plays in its
1919 prevention; and, be it further
2020 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
2121 recognition of this important subject.
