2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Meningococcal disease is a serious health problem |

3 | 3 | | in Texas and across the country, and vaccinations play an |

4 | 4 | | important role in helping to stem outbreaks of the disease; and |

5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, This potentially fatal disease most commonly |
---|
6 | 6 | | affects young people between the ages of 16 and 23; because of low |
---|
7 | 7 | | vaccination rates, there have been numerous instances of |
---|
8 | 8 | | meningitis B on college campuses in recent years; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention |
---|
10 | 10 | | recommends that young adults consult with health care |
---|
11 | 11 | | professionals about being vaccinated against the disease; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Meningococcal disease can be prevented through |
---|
13 | 13 | | proper vaccination, and a greater awareness about the disease |
---|
14 | 14 | | would be beneficial to the health and well-being of many Texans; |
---|
15 | 15 | | now, therefore, be it |
---|
16 | 16 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
---|
17 | 17 | | Legislature, hereby encourage the public to learn more about |
---|
18 | 18 | | meningococcal disease and the role vaccination plays in its |
---|
19 | 19 | | prevention; and, be it further |
---|
20 | 20 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
---|
21 | 21 | | recognition of this important subject. |
