| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | join the Texas Midwest Community Network and Texans across the |

| 4 | 4 | | state in celebrating February 7, 2017, as Texas Midwest Day at |

| 5 | 5 | | the Capitol; and |

| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Midwest Community Network is an |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | alliance that was established in 1994 to promote regional |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | identity and to foster cooperation on economic growth, tourism |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | development, regional promotion, and legislative awareness among |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | 50 communities in the 32 counties surrounding Abilene; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, This exemplary organization also works to |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | identify emerging community leaders and to develop their skills |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | by deepening their understanding of regional issues and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | facilitating networking opportunities; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Texas Midwest Day provides a chance for the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | network's delegation to meet with legislators and discuss issues |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | of importance to the region, as well as to hear legislative |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | briefings by state officials and attend a reception honoring the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | legislators representing the Midwest region; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Midwest Community Network plays a vital |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | role in strengthening our state by providing a strong voice for |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | rural Texans and encouraging civic participation in the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | legislative process, and it is truly deserving of special |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | recognition; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby recognize February 7, 2017, as Texas Midwest |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Day at the Capitol and extend best wishes to the Texas Midwest |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Community Network delegation for a successful and memorable |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | event; and, be it further |
