11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 896
22 WHEREAS, For more than a century, the Legislative
33 Reference Library has provided invaluable assistance to Texas
44 lawmakers; and
55 WHEREAS, Housing a specialized collection of materials
66 including original legislative bill files dating back to the
77 63rd Session, historical and current publications of
88 legislative committees, of state agencies, and of institutions
99 of higher education, legal resources, and periodicals, the
1010 library is well positioned to support the varied and extensive
1111 work of legislators; and
1212 WHEREAS, The library's electronic data systems expedite
1313 the delivery of knowledge to the legislative community; the
1414 Texas Appointment System contains information on members of
1515 state councils, boards, and committees appointed by the
1616 governor, lieutenant governor, and speaker; the Legislative
1717 Archive System holds the only electronic version of original
1818 legislative bill files and documentation, while the Index to
1919 Sections Affected details the proposed statutory effect of
2020 bills; moreover, the library maintains Texas Legislators: Past &
2121 Present, highlighting legislative membership information
2222 from 1846 to today, as well as a legislative reports database
2323 covering that same period, and it archives gubernatorial
2424 executive orders, messages, and proclamations; and
2525 WHEREAS, During legislative sessions, the library plays an
2626 integral part in the legislative process; staff members develop
2727 electronic records in the Texas Legislative Tracking System for
2828 each bill or resolution filed; assign and enter subject terms and
2929 companion relationships; and review enrolled legislation for
3030 effective dates of each measure; moreover, library staff members
3131 stationed on the floor of the house and senate chambers enter
3232 legislative actions as they occur, furnishing real-time
3333 information to the legislative community, to executive agencies,
3434 and to citizens of this state through such proprietary
3535 applications as TLIS (the Texas Legislative Information System)
3636 and TLO (Texas Legislature Online); and
3737 WHEREAS, Among the services the library offers are a bill
3838 status hotline for constituents; professional and confidential
3939 research; a daily legislative clipping service; weekly listings of
4040 important journal articles; and monthly listings of newsworthy
4141 additions to the library's collection;
4242 WHEREAS, Guided skillfully by director and librarian Mary
4343 Camp, the Legislative Reference Library staff includes assistant
4444 director and librarian Catherine Wusterhausen, administrative
4545 and legislative staff members Leah Alejandro, Donald Brower,
4646 Elizabeth Buchanan, Emilie Jezisek, Michelle Martinez, Kali
4747 Palmer, Julia Walden, and Jay Young, clipping service staffers
4848 Vincent Cowan, David Wood, and Karen Wright, and librarians Ali
4949 Dzienkowski,CassandraGallegos,SallyHarlow,MelanieHarshman,
5050 Karen McBurney, Rona Mertink, Amanda Norman, Kay Schlueter, Ana
5151 Sifuentes-Martinez, Brandon Vasquez, Nancy Watson, Lindsay
5252 Wickham, and Ia Wood; and
5353 WHEREAS, These hardworking professionals demonstrate a
5454 commitment to excellence as they perform their duties with skill
5555 and dedication, and they may take justifiable pride in the
5656 important services they provide to the legislature and to the
5757 citizens of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
5858 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
5959 Legislature, hereby honor the Legislative Reference Library and
6060 extend to the staff members sincere appreciation for their
6161 outstanding contributions; and, be it further
6262 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
6363 prepared for the library as an expression of high regard from the
6464 Texas Senate.
