SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 903 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Celeste Zepeda Sanchez for her outstanding service as mayor of the City of San Benito; and WHEREAS, Celeste Sanchez was elected as San Benito's first woman mayor in 2014, after serving for eight years as a San Benito city commissioner; she holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from Texas A&I University, and she enjoyed a distinguished 46-year career in public education; and WHEREAS, Under her exemplary leadership as mayor, the City of San Benito has been able to pass multiple budgets without raising taxes; she delivered the first State of the City address and established the Mayor's Prayer Breakfast, and she represented the city at the Metropolitan Planning Organization; and WHEREAS, Mayor Sanchez played an important role in efforts that led to the expansion and improvement of the Resaca Trail and to the establishment of the Citizen's Academy of San Benito; she is also active in a wide range of civic and professional organizations, including Workforce Solutions Cameron, the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council, the Rotary Club of San Benito, and the Texas Conjunto Hall of Fame and Museum; and WHEREAS, An exemplary public servant, she is respected and admired by her colleagues and area citizens, and it is truly fitting that she receive special recognition for her many achievements as mayor of San Benito; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, hereby commend Celeste Zepeda Sanchez on her commitment to public service and extend to her best wishes for continued success in all her endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
