| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Celeste Zepeda Sanchez for her outstanding service as |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | mayor of the City of San Benito; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Celeste Sanchez was elected as San Benito's first |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | woman mayor in 2014, after serving for eight years as a San Benito |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | city commissioner; she holds undergraduate and graduate degrees |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | from Texas A&I University, and she enjoyed a distinguished |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | 46-year career in public education; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Under her exemplary leadership as mayor, the City |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | of San Benito has been able to pass multiple budgets without |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | raising taxes; she delivered the first State of the City address |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | and established the Mayor's Prayer Breakfast, and she represented |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | the city at the Metropolitan Planning Organization; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Mayor Sanchez played an important role in efforts |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | that led to the expansion and improvement of the Resaca Trail and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | to the establishment of the Citizen's Academy of San Benito; she |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | is also active in a wide range of civic and professional |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | organizations, including Workforce Solutions Cameron, the Lower |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Rio Grande Valley Development Council, the Rotary Club of San |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Benito, and the Texas Conjunto Hall of Fame and Museum; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, An exemplary public servant, she is respected and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | admired by her colleagues and area citizens, and it is truly fitting |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | that she receive special recognition for her many achievements as |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | mayor of San Benito; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby commend Celeste Zepeda Sanchez on her |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | commitment to public service and extend to her best wishes for |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | continued success in all her endeavors; and, be it further |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her |
