11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 904
22 WHEREAS, Gonzalez Elementary School in Brownsville celebrated
33 its 30th anniversary during the 2016-2017 academic year; and
44 WHEREAS, This notable campus is named for Mariano Gonzalez,
55 a beloved local bus driver who spent nearly three decades
66 transporting students to and from school and special events;
77 initially led by principal Neida Ruth Soto, the school opened its
88 doors in the fall of 1986, and the new building garnered praise
99 for its bright and cheerful interior; the school adopted purple,
1010 white, and black as its official colors and the mustang as its
1111 mascot; and
1212 WHEREAS, Today, Gonzalez Elementary School serves more than
1313 800 students in early education through fifth grade; under the
1414 expert guidance of principal Dr. Timothy Cuff, the dedicated
1515 faculty and staff work tirelessly to equip their students with
1616 the ability to think independently and communicate effectively,
1717 along with other essential academic skills; and
1818 WHEREAS, The education of young Texans is of great importance
1919 to the future of our state, and for the past 30 years, Gonzalez
2020 Elementary School has helped its students to reach their full
2121 potential and to become engaged and productive members of their
2222 community; now, therefore, be it
2323 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
2424 Legislature, hereby commemorate the 30th anniversary of Gonzalez
2525 Elementary School and extend to its administrators, faculty,
2626 staff, and students sincere best wishes for continued success;
2727 and, be it further
2828 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
2929 school as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
