| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Gonzalez Elementary School in Brownsville celebrated |

| 3 | 3 | | its 30th anniversary during the 2016-2017 academic year; and |

| 4 | 4 | | WHEREAS, This notable campus is named for Mariano Gonzalez, |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | a beloved local bus driver who spent nearly three decades |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | transporting students to and from school and special events; |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | initially led by principal Neida Ruth Soto, the school opened its |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | doors in the fall of 1986, and the new building garnered praise |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | for its bright and cheerful interior; the school adopted purple, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | white, and black as its official colors and the mustang as its |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | mascot; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Today, Gonzalez Elementary School serves more than |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | 800 students in early education through fifth grade; under the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | expert guidance of principal Dr. Timothy Cuff, the dedicated |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | faculty and staff work tirelessly to equip their students with |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | the ability to think independently and communicate effectively, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | along with other essential academic skills; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, The education of young Texans is of great importance |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | to the future of our state, and for the past 30 years, Gonzalez |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Elementary School has helped its students to reach their full |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | potential and to become engaged and productive members of their |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | community; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Legislature, hereby commemorate the 30th anniversary of Gonzalez |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Elementary School and extend to its administrators, faculty, |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | staff, and students sincere best wishes for continued success; |
