| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, It is a pleasure for the Texas Senate to honor one |

| 3 | 3 | | of its most loyal and beloved longtime staff members by naming |

| 4 | 4 | | Susan Fontenette the 2017 legislative recipient of the Betty King |

| 5 | 5 | | Public Service Award; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, For 25 years, Susan Fontenette has served the |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Senate with honor and distinction; over the course of her career, |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | she has handled her responsibilities with dedication and skill, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | and she is held in highest regard by the legislators and the many |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Capitol staff members with whom she works; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, For the last 20 years, Susan has served as a |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | valued employee in Senator Whitmire's office, and throughout her |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | tenure, she has been noted for her warmth, her graciousness, and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | her unfailing courtesy; Susan is also famous for her ability to |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | keep proceedings in the Senator's office running smoothly, for |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | serving as a much-cherished mentor and counselor to her |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | co-workers, and for having a friendly face and a ready smile that |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | can brighten the day for anyone visiting the office; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, As a legislative aide, Susan is known for her |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | expertise and sound judgment and for the manner in which she has |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | handled a position that entails a wide range of responsibilities; |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | she has played a major role in helping to meet the needs of |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | constituents and in addressing their concerns, and her legislative |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | experience and her thorough knowledge of the intricacies of |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Capitol proceedings have made her an irreplaceable asset to the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | senator's office; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, A role model for anyone in public service, Susan |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | has the ability to accomplish whatever mission is set before her, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | and her high standards, her poise in the face of challenging |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | situations, and her commitment to excellence represent the finest |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | qualities of this institution; and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Susan Fontenette is a treasured legislative |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | employee who is admired for her exemplary work ethic and for the |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | kindness she shows to all she encounters, and upon her |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | retirement, her presence in the Capitol will truly be missed; |

| 36 | 36 | | now, therefore, be it |

| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere appreciation to Susan |

| 39 | 39 | | Fontenette for her outstanding service to the Texas Senate and |

| 40 | 40 | | congratulations to her on earning a 2017 Betty King Public |
