| 5 | 5 | | December 15 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington; and |

| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The victory marked the first state title for the |

| 7 | 7 | | team, which completed a remarkable turnaround early in the year; |

| 8 | 8 | | after losing their first two games, the Yellowjackets went on to |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | sweep their remaining eight district games to secure a spot in |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | the playoffs; Mineola's march to the championship included |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | decisive postseason wins over Gladewater Sabine, Whitesboro, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Howe, Pottsboro, and Wall High Schools before facing off against |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Yoakum High for the title; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, In the Class 3A Division 1 championship game, the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Yellowjackets continued their gridiron dominance, outscoring |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | their opponent 35-14; the team's potent offense was supported by |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | a stout defense that shut down the Yoakum passing game and did not |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | give up a single point in the second half of the game; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, The success enjoyed by Mineola in 2016 was the |

| 20 | 20 | | result of an exceptional team effort; under the able leadership of |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | head coach Joe Drennon and his staff, each player on the roster made |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | valuable contributions that enabled the Yellowjackets to realize |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | their long-awaited goal of winning a state championship; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, In proving itself one of the finest football teams |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | in Texas, Mineola has won not only the state championship but |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | also the admiration of its many supporters in the community, and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | the players may indeed reflect with pride on this admirable |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | achievement; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate the Mineola High School |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | football team on winning the 2016 University Interscholastic |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | League Class 3A Division 1 state championship and extend to the |
