55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to required mental health, behavioral health, and
88 substance abuse services under the Texas women's health program.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 531, Government Code, is
1111 amended by adding Section 531.0997 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 531.0997. TEXAS WOMEN'S HEALTH PROGRAM; REQUIRED
1313 SERVICES FOR MENTAL HEALTH, BEHAVIORAL HEALTH, AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE.
1414 (a) In this section, "Texas women's health program" means a program
1515 operated by the commission that is substantially similar to the
1616 demonstration project operated under former Section 32.0248, Human
1717 Resources Code, and that is intended to expand access to preventive
1818 health and family planning services for women in this state.
1919 (b) The health care services provided under the Texas
2020 women's health program must include screening and treatment for:
2121 (1) mental health conditions;
2222 (2) behavioral health conditions; and
2323 (3) substance abuse disorders.
2424 (c) The executive commissioner shall adopt rules necessary
2525 to implement this section.
2626 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect December 1, 2017.
