8 | 8 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
9 | 9 | SECTION 1. Section 193.001, Health and Safety Code, is | |
10 | 10 | amended by adding Subsection (a-2) to read as follows: | |
11 | 11 | (a-2) In prescribing the form and contents of death | |
12 | 12 | certificates, the department shall require each death certificate | |
13 | 13 | to indicate whether a female decedent was pregnant at the time of | |
14 | 14 | death or was pregnant at any time in the year preceding the | |
15 | 15 | decedent's death. | |
16 | 16 | SECTION 2. Not later than March 1, 2018, the Department of | |
17 | 17 | State Health Services shall revise and make available the forms | |
18 | 18 | required by Section 193.001, Health and Safety Code, as amended by | |
19 | 19 | this Act. | |
20 | 20 | SECTION 3. The changes in law made by this Act apply only to | |
21 | 21 | a death certificate filed on or after April 1, 2018. | |
22 | 22 | SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
23 | 23 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
24 | 24 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
25 | 25 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
26 | 26 | Act takes effect on the 91st day after the last day of the | |
27 | 27 | legislative session. |
