66 AN ACT
77 relating to pregnancy information on death certificates.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Section 193.001, Health and Safety Code, is
1010 amended by adding Subsection (a-2) to read as follows:
1111 (a-2) In prescribing the form and contents of death
1212 certificates, the department shall require each death certificate
1313 to indicate whether a female decedent was pregnant at the time of
1414 death or was pregnant at any time in the year preceding the
1515 decedent's death.
1616 SECTION 2. Not later than March 1, 2018, the Department of
1717 State Health Services shall revise and make available the forms
1818 required by Section 193.001, Health and Safety Code, as amended by
1919 this Act.
2020 SECTION 3. The changes in law made by this Act apply only to
2121 a death certificate filed on or after April 1, 2018.
2222 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2323 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2424 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2525 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2626 Act takes effect on the 91st day after the last day of the
2727 legislative session.
