| 7 | 7 | | relating to a reduction of the amount required to be paid by certain |

| 8 | 8 | | school districts to achieve the equalized wealth level under the |

| 9 | 9 | | public school finance system. |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 41, Education Code, is |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | amended by adding Section 41.0933 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Sec. 41.0933. REDUCTION FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | COSTS. (a) This section applies only to a school district in which |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | at least 65 percent of the enrolled students are educationally |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | disadvantaged or at risk of dropping out of school, as defined by |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Section 29.081(d). |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | (b) Notwithstanding any other provision of this chapter, a |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | school district to which this section applies that executes an |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | agreement to purchase all attendance credits necessary to reduce |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | the district's wealth per student to the equalized wealth level may |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | reduce the total amount required to be paid for attendance credits |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | under Section 41.093 by 25 percent. |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | (c) A reduction under Subsection (b) shall be made after |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | making any reduction to which the district is entitled under |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Section 41.0931, 41.097, or 41.098 or another provision of this |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | chapter. |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | (d) The district shall use amounts available to the district |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | as a result of this section to pay district maintenance and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | operations costs. |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017, if this |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Act receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | If this Act does not receive the vote necessary for effect on that |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | date, this Act takes effect on the 91st day after the last day of the |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | legislative session. |
