85 A JOINT RESOLUTION
96 proposing a constitutional amendment abolishing school district
107 maintenance and operations ad valorem taxes.
118 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
129 SECTION 1. Article VIII, Texas Constitution, is amended by
1310 adding Section 1-e-1 to read as follows:
1411 Sec. 1-e-1. Notwithstanding any other law, beginning on
15- January 1, 2021, a political subdivision of this state may not levy
12+ January 1, 2020, a political subdivision of this state may not levy
1613 an ad valorem tax for the purpose of maintaining an efficient system
1714 of public free schools.
1815 SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
19- submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 6, 2018.
16+ submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 7, 2017.
2017 The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the
2118 proposition: "The constitutional amendment to abolish school
2219 district maintenance and operations ad valorem taxes beginning on
23- January 1, 2021, in order that the legislature may enact a fairer
20+ January 1, 2020, in order that the legislature may enact a fairer
2421 system of fully funding public education."
