No. 143 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Bowie High School received a bronze medal from U.S. News & World Report in the 2017 Best High Schools rankings; and WHEREAS, To produce this year's list of honorees, U.S. News & World Report evaluated more than 20,000 public schools from across the country using a wide range of criteria, including graduation rates, measures of college readiness, student performance in comparison to the state average, and evidence of progress in closing the achievement gap for disadvantaged students; fewer than 17 percent of the schools considered in this rigorous analysis earned a bronze medal; and WHEREAS, One of four campuses in the Bowie Independent School District, Bowie High provides a safe, caring, and collaborative atmosphere to over 450 students in the 9th through 12th grades; and WHEREAS, Bowie High School has equipped many young Texans with the knowledge and skills necessary to become engaged and productive citizens, and the school is indeed worthy of recognition for this outstanding achievement; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Bowie High School on its receipt of a bronze medal in the U.S. News & World Report 2017 Best High Schools rankings and extend to the school's students, teachers, administrators, and staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Bowie High School as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
