| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Those Texans who demonstrate great courage in times |

| 6 | 7 | | of crisis are truly deserving of our admiration and gratitude, and |

| 7 | 8 | | through his selfless actions during the Texas Panhandle wildfire |

| 8 | 9 | | outbreak of 2017, Frank Moya of Shamrock has distinguished himself |

| 9 | 10 | | as one such hero; and |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, A county employee who operates a road grader in |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Precinct 4, Frank Moya is the father of James Moya, a member of the |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Shamrock Volunteer Fire Department; on March 23, 2017, the elder |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | Mr. Moya and his fellow county workers received a call from the fire |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | department for assistance in creating barriers to contain a |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | wildfire that had broken out west of Shamrock; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Moya's son, James, was operating his own road |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | grader at the scene of the fire; while the younger Mr. Moya was |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | working to create a firebreak, the wind shifted and his grader |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | stalled, stranding him in the path of the flames; and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Hearing his son's pleas for help on the radio, Frank |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | Moya was consumed with a single imperative, that of getting him out |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | alive; while other firefighters searched frantically for the young |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | man, Mr. Moya was able to find his son and move him to safety; James |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | Moya had sustained severe burns and subsequently spent 60 days in |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | the Lubbock Burn Unit, during which time his father never left his |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | side; and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, In a situation fraught with peril, this devoted |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | father proved himself a man of outstanding bravery and tenacity, |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | and his actions in saving the life of his son have earned him the |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | heartfelt gratitude of his entire community; now, therefore, be it |

| 31 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 32 | 33 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Frank Moya for |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | rescuing James Moya from a wildfire and extend to him sincere best |

| 34 | 35 | | wishes for the future; and, be it further |
