6 | 7 | | of Donald Lewis Benton of El Paso, who passed away on July 18, 2017, |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of Freida Ivey and Lewis Benton, Donald |

9 | 10 | | Benton was born on December 29, 1936, and he was raised by his |

10 | 11 | | grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Ivey, in Fabens; he graduated from |
---|
11 | 12 | | New Mexico Military Institute before continuing his education at |
---|
12 | 13 | | Texas Tech University and Sul Ross State University, where he |
---|
13 | 14 | | earned his bachelor of science and master of engineering degrees; |
---|
14 | 15 | | he completed a second master's degree at Sam Houston State |
---|
15 | 16 | | University, and he answered his nation's call to duty as a member of |
---|
16 | 17 | | the United States Army; during his two years of military service, he |
---|
17 | 18 | | was assigned to work in bioacoustic research at the Walter Reed Army |
---|
18 | 19 | | Medical Center in Washington, D.C.; and |
---|
19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, After returning to civilian life, Mr. Benton worked |
---|
20 | 21 | | as a teacher and coach in Fort Hancock, Tornillo, Socorro, and |
---|
21 | 22 | | Clint, and he was admired by his students for his enthusiasm and |
---|
22 | 23 | | sense of humor; and |
---|
23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Benton enjoyed the love |
---|
24 | 25 | | and support of his wife, Betty, and their treasured family, which |
---|
25 | 26 | | included his three daughters, Penny, Brenda, and Wray, and his four |
---|
26 | 27 | | stepchildren, Shawndi, Stacy, Shelly, and Scott; his life was |
---|
27 | 28 | | further enriched by his nine grandchildren and two |
---|
28 | 29 | | great-grandchildren; in his leisure hours, he was fond of fishing, |
---|
29 | 30 | | hunting, and spending time at his lake house at Elephant Butte; a |

30 | 31 | | member of the Masons for more than five decades, he held the title |
---|
31 | 32 | | of Worshipful Master at his local lodge from 2006 to 2009 and also |

32 | 33 | | belonged to the Grand Scottish Rite and the Grand Lodge of Texas; |

34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Donald Benton led a full and generous life, and |

35 | 36 | | although he will be greatly missed, he will always be remembered |

36 | 37 | | with deep affection by those who had the good fortune to know him; |
