| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The members of Brentwood Baptist Church in Houston |

| 6 | 7 | | are joining together on September 17, 2017, to celebrate the 52nd |

| 7 | 8 | | anniversary of their church's founding; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Established in 1945 by 12 charter congregants who |

| 9 | 10 | | first met at a local elementary school, Brentwood has since played a |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | vital role in the community, providing its members with myriad |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | opportunities for spiritual growth, fellowship, and outreach; and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, The congregation has benefited from the able |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | leadership of a number of dedicated pastors, and since 1980, that |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | tradition of service has been continued by Dr. Joe Samuel Ratliff; |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | over the course of Dr. Ratliff's tenure, membership has increased |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | from 500 to more than 7,000; moreover, the church has been |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | recognized with a Five Star Award for excellence in Christian |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | ministry; and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Brentwood Baptist Church has long served as a source |

| 20 | 21 | | of inspiration and guidance to those who worship there, and its |

| 21 | 22 | | continued existence is a testament to the unwavering commitment of |

| 22 | 23 | | its members and clergy, both past and present; now, therefore, be it |

| 23 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 24 | 25 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commemorate the 52nd |

| 25 | 26 | | anniversary of Brentwood Baptist Church and extend to the |

| 26 | 27 | | congregation sincere best wishes for many more years of shared |

| 27 | 28 | | prayer and fellowship; and, be it further |
