| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life dedicated to serving |

| 6 | 7 | | others drew to a close with the passing of Bettye J. Glover of Cedar |

| 7 | 8 | | Park on July 3, 2017, at the age of 80; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The former Bettye Jarrell was born in Wink on |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | February 18, 1937, to Jerry and Carolyn Jarrell; in 1955, she |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | graduated as valedictorian of Winters High School, and that same |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | year, she wed William Sanders Glover Jr.; the couple shared a |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | rewarding marriage that spanned 13 years, until Mr. Glover's death |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | in 1968; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, After her husband's passing, Mrs. Glover moved to |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | Austin and earned her real estate agent's and broker's licenses, and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | she went on to run B and G Properties with her longtime friend, |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | Ginny Bronson; above all else, she devoted herself to raising her |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | four children, Sandra, Angela, Jerry, and Curt; and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Glover was a loving and supportive parent, but |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | she also knew how to keep her charges in line; on weekends, she |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | asked the children only once to do their chores, and if that didn't |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | work, she played Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass at top volume, |

| 23 | 24 | | rousing them to their labors with the band's breezy Latin hits |

| 24 | 25 | | cranked up to 11; she encouraged and often participated in their |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | pastimes and pursuits, from riding motorcycles and "mudding" to |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | various entrepreneurial endeavors, and she was always ready to lend |

| 27 | 28 | | a hand with her grandchildren and her great-grandson, picking them |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | up from school, attending their activities, and helping them with |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | their homework; and |

| 30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, A talented cook, Mrs. Glover maintained a vast |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | collection of cookbooks and spent many happy hours baking and |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | preparing meals for friends and loved ones; she took great delight |

| 33 | 34 | | in nurturing her six beloved cats and feeding other animals in need |

| 34 | 35 | | of a meal; her hobbies included gardening, reading mystery novels, |

| 35 | 36 | | and collecting antiques, and she was the acknowledged queen of the |

| 36 | 37 | | flea markets, maintaining a booth at the City-Wide Garage Sale in |

| 37 | 38 | | Austin and at Wimberley Market Days; an avid fan of the Texas |

| 38 | 39 | | Longhorns and the Dallas Cowboys, she also loved the movies, and |

| 39 | 40 | | throughout her life she remained steadfast in her conviction that |

| 40 | 41 | | Sean Connery was the only real James Bond; and |

| 41 | 42 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Glover was a member by proxy of the Texas |

| 42 | 43 | | legislative community; her son Curt has worked for the Texas |

| 43 | 44 | | Legislative Council for more than 32 years, and her son Jerry worked |

| 44 | 45 | | for the council for 20 years until his retirement; following in the |
|---|
| 45 | 46 | | family tradition, her grandson Joe has worked for the council for |
|---|
| 46 | 47 | | four years; and |
|---|
| 47 | 48 | | WHEREAS, A loving mother and grandmother and a true and loyal |

| 48 | 49 | | friend, Bettye Glover did everything she could for those she loved |
|---|
| 49 | 50 | | and never asked for credit, earning their lasting respect and |
|---|
| 50 | 51 | | admiration for her warmth, humility, and strength of character; |

| 52 | 53 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 53 | 54 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |

| 54 | 55 | | of Bettye J. Glover and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of |

| 55 | 56 | | her family: to her sister, Gwendelyn Bridge; to her children, |

| 56 | 57 | | Sandra Glover Byler, Angela Gay Smith, Jerry Alan Glover and his |
|---|
| 57 | 58 | | wife, Leony, and William Curt Glover and his wife, Linda; to her |
