45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life dedicated to serving
67 others drew to a close with the passing of Bettye J. Glover of Cedar
78 Park on July 3, 2017, at the age of 80; and
89 WHEREAS, The former Bettye Jarrell was born in Wink on
910 February 18, 1937, to Jerry and Carolyn Jarrell; in 1955, she
1011 graduated as valedictorian of Winters High School, and that same
1112 year, she wed William Sanders Glover Jr.; the couple shared a
1213 rewarding marriage that spanned 13 years, until Mr. Glover's death
1314 in 1968; and
1415 WHEREAS, After her husband's passing, Mrs. Glover moved to
1516 Austin and earned her real estate agent's and broker's licenses, and
1617 she went on to run B and G Properties with her longtime friend,
1718 Ginny Bronson; above all else, she devoted herself to raising her
1819 four children, Sandra, Angela, Jerry, and Curt; and
1920 WHEREAS, Mrs. Glover was a loving and supportive parent, but
2021 she also knew how to keep her charges in line; on weekends, she
2122 asked the children only once to do their chores, and if that didn't
2223 work, she played Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass at top volume,
2324 rousing them to their labors with the band's breezy Latin hits
2425 cranked up to 11; she encouraged and often participated in their
2526 pastimes and pursuits, from riding motorcycles and "mudding" to
2627 various entrepreneurial endeavors, and she was always ready to lend
2728 a hand with her grandchildren and her great-grandson, picking them
2829 up from school, attending their activities, and helping them with
2930 their homework; and
3031 WHEREAS, A talented cook, Mrs. Glover maintained a vast
3132 collection of cookbooks and spent many happy hours baking and
3233 preparing meals for friends and loved ones; she took great delight
3334 in nurturing her six beloved cats and feeding other animals in need
3435 of a meal; her hobbies included gardening, reading mystery novels,
3536 and collecting antiques, and she was the acknowledged queen of the
3637 flea markets, maintaining a booth at the City-Wide Garage Sale in
3738 Austin and at Wimberley Market Days; an avid fan of the Texas
3839 Longhorns and the Dallas Cowboys, she also loved the movies, and
3940 throughout her life she remained steadfast in her conviction that
4041 Sean Connery was the only real James Bond; and
4142 WHEREAS, Mrs. Glover was a member by proxy of the Texas
4243 legislative community; her son Curt has worked for the Texas
4344 Legislative Council for more than 32 years, and her son Jerry worked
4445 for the council for 20 years until his retirement; following in the
4546 family tradition, her grandson Joe has worked for the council for
4647 four years; and
4748 WHEREAS, A loving mother and grandmother and a true and loyal
4849 friend, Bettye Glover did everything she could for those she loved
4950 and never asked for credit, earning their lasting respect and
5051 admiration for her warmth, humility, and strength of character;
5152 now, therefore, be it
5253 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
5354 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory
5455 of Bettye J. Glover and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of
5556 her family: to her sister, Gwendelyn Bridge; to her children,
5657 Sandra Glover Byler, Angela Gay Smith, Jerry Alan Glover and his
5758 wife, Leony, and William Curt Glover and his wife, Linda; to her
5859 grandchildren, Dustin and Valerie Smith, Cameron Smith, Logan and
5960 Carly Campbell, Alaine Tremain, Lynell Glover, and Joe and Jacob
6061 Glover; to her great-grandson, Aiden Tremain; and to her other
6162 relatives and many friends; and, be it further
6263 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
6364 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
6465 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Bettye
6566 Glover.
