| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Shon Blake is retiring as chief of the Baytown Fire |

| 6 | 7 | | Department in August 2017, drawing to a close an outstanding career |

| 7 | 8 | | as a firefighter that has spanned more than four decades; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Chief Blake first joined the department in 1976, and |

| 9 | 10 | | over the course of his exemplary 41-year tenure, he steadily worked |

| 10 | 11 | | his way up through the ranks of the department, becoming a battalion |

| 11 | 12 | | chief in 1990 and assistant chief of operations in 2001; since his |

| 12 | 13 | | appointment as chief in October 2004, he has played a vital role in |

| 13 | 14 | | the growth of the department, spearheading efforts to improve |

| 14 | 15 | | training and expand emergency medical services; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, A member of the National Fire Service Incident |

| 16 | 17 | | Management System Consortium, Chief Blake has contributed to the |

| 17 | 18 | | publication of six of the consortium's Model Procedures Guides; he |

| 18 | 19 | | is also a principal member of the National Fire Protection |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | Association's Technical Committee on Occupational Safety and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | Health Standards, and he serves on the Texas Commission on Fire |

| 21 | 22 | | Protection Ad-Hoc Committee on Wellness and Fitness; and |

| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Chief Blake's dedication, professionalism, and |

| 23 | 24 | | commitment to protecting the lives and property of the public have |

| 24 | 25 | | greatly benefited the citizens of Baytown and earned him the |

| 25 | 26 | | respect and admiration of his fellow firefighters, and he may |

| 26 | 27 | | indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent as he embarks on |

| 27 | 28 | | the next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it |

| 28 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
