45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Marilyn Hinton concluded her terms as the Place 6
67 representative on the Plano Independent School District Board of
78 Trustees in 2017, following eight years of notable service; and
89 WHEREAS, Ms. Hinton was first elected to the board in 2009,
910 and during her tenure she worked closely with parents, teachers,
1011 administrators, and other concerned citizens to foster a supportive
1112 and challenging environment at district schools; she further
1213 distinguished herself through her role as secretary of the board;
1314 and
1415 WHEREAS, A resident of Plano since 1994, Ms. Hinton holds a
1516 bachelor's degree in speech and drama from Fisk University and a
1617 master's degree in education from Howard University; she has long
1718 been a vital asset to the district, previously working as a teacher
1819 for the Head Start program at Meadows Elementary School and
1920 volunteering as a member of the Plano ISD Diversity Advisory
2021 Committee and two school-based improvement committees; in
2122 addition, she has served as a visiting scholar at Brookhaven
2223 College, a counselor and adjunct professor at Richland College, and
2324 a youth director at a nonprofit agency for homeless and
2425 transitional families; and
2526 WHEREAS, This esteemed educator is also a graduate of
2627 Leadership Plano, and she has served on the boards of The Samaritan
2728 Inn, the Plano Metro Rotary Club, and Character.org; moreover, she
2829 has held membership with the Plano Symphony Orchestra Virtuoso
2930 Society and Jack and Jill of America, Inc., and served as a
3031 volunteer with the Children's Advocacy Center of Collin County and
3132 as a Sunday school teacher; in recognition of her many
3233 contributions to her community, she was presented with a 2012 Women
3334 of Excellence Award by the Plano Community Forum; she is supported
3435 in all her endeavors by the love and encouragement of her husband,
3536 Jim, and their two daughters; and
3637 WHEREAS, The people of Plano have benefited immeasurably from
3738 Marilyn Hinton's vision and leadership, and her fine work has
3839 helped provide countless local students with a strong academic
3940 foundation on which to build a bright and prosperous future; now,
4041 therefore, be it
4142 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
4243 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Marilyn Hinton on
4344 her service as a member of the Plano Independent School District
4445 Board of Trustees and extend to her sincere best wishes for the
4546 future; and, be it further
4647 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4748 prepared for Ms. Hinton as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4849 House of Representatives.
