5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Marilyn Hinton concluded her terms as the Place 6 |

6 | 7 | | representative on the Plano Independent School District Board of |

7 | 8 | | Trustees in 2017, following eight years of notable service; and |
---|
8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Hinton was first elected to the board in 2009, |
---|
9 | 10 | | and during her tenure she worked closely with parents, teachers, |
---|
10 | 11 | | administrators, and other concerned citizens to foster a supportive |
---|
11 | 12 | | and challenging environment at district schools; she further |
---|
12 | 13 | | distinguished herself through her role as secretary of the board; |
---|
13 | 14 | | and |
---|
14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, A resident of Plano since 1994, Ms. Hinton holds a |
---|
15 | 16 | | bachelor's degree in speech and drama from Fisk University and a |
---|
16 | 17 | | master's degree in education from Howard University; she has long |
---|
17 | 18 | | been a vital asset to the district, previously working as a teacher |
---|
18 | 19 | | for the Head Start program at Meadows Elementary School and |
---|
19 | 20 | | volunteering as a member of the Plano ISD Diversity Advisory |
---|
20 | 21 | | Committee and two school-based improvement committees; in |
---|
21 | 22 | | addition, she has served as a visiting scholar at Brookhaven |
---|
22 | 23 | | College, a counselor and adjunct professor at Richland College, and |
---|
23 | 24 | | a youth director at a nonprofit agency for homeless and |
---|
24 | 25 | | transitional families; and |
---|
25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed educator is also a graduate of |
---|
26 | 27 | | Leadership Plano, and she has served on the boards of The Samaritan |
---|
27 | 28 | | Inn, the Plano Metro Rotary Club, and Character.org; moreover, she |
---|
28 | 29 | | has held membership with the Plano Symphony Orchestra Virtuoso |
---|
29 | 30 | | Society and Jack and Jill of America, Inc., and served as a |
---|
30 | 31 | | volunteer with the Children's Advocacy Center of Collin County and |
---|
31 | 32 | | as a Sunday school teacher; in recognition of her many |
---|
32 | 33 | | contributions to her community, she was presented with a 2012 Women |
---|
33 | 34 | | of Excellence Award by the Plano Community Forum; she is supported |
---|
34 | 35 | | in all her endeavors by the love and encouragement of her husband, |
---|
35 | 36 | | Jim, and their two daughters; and |
---|
36 | 37 | | WHEREAS, The people of Plano have benefited immeasurably from |

37 | 38 | | Marilyn Hinton's vision and leadership, and her fine work has |
---|
38 | 39 | | helped provide countless local students with a strong academic |
---|
39 | 40 | | foundation on which to build a bright and prosperous future; now, |

41 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

42 | 43 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Marilyn Hinton on |

43 | 44 | | her service as a member of the Plano Independent School District |
