| 6 | 7 | | community are mourning the loss of Charles Beal of San Diego, |

| 7 | 8 | | California, who passed away on July 13, 2017, at the age of 74; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born in San Diego on February 6, 1943, to C. W. and |

| 9 | 10 | | Elsie Beal, Chuck Beal grew up with the companionship of his |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | brother, Daniel, and his five sisters, Norma, Ann, Sandy, Lana, and |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Debbie; while attending Kearny High School, he met the love of his |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | life, the former Karen Rushing, and they wed in 1962, two years |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | after his graduation; they shared a rewarding marriage that spanned |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | more than five decades, and their family grew to include two |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | daughters, Kymi and Teri, three grandsons, Brandon, Tyson, and |

| 16 | 17 | | Dylon, and three great-granddaughters, Celine, Kate, and Claire; |

| 18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, After holding a position for three years at Solar |

| 19 | 20 | | Turbines, Mr. Beal joined General Atomics, serving as fusion |

| 21 | 22 | | in the nuclear research and development division; toward the end of |

| 22 | 23 | | his career, he worked on the GA electromagnetic aircraft launch |

| 23 | 24 | | system, and he retired in 2014 after nearly half a century with the |

| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Devoted to the sport of drag racing, Mr. Beal began |

| 26 | 27 | | competing as a driver in 1966 in both front- and rear-engine |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | dragsters, and in the late 1970s, he switched to alcohol funny cars, |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | winning the Winternationals championships in 1982 and 1983 and |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | making a name for himself on the West Coast racing scene as a |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | successful match racer; in the 1990s, he started racing nitro funny |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | cars; and |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, This veteran driver's cars were known for their |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | bright orange, gold, and blue color schemes and their unique |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | nicknames, such as "Bealmobile" and "Goldie"; the founder and owner |

| 35 | 36 | | of Chuck Beal Racing, Mr. Beal helped launch the racing career of |
|---|
| 36 | 37 | | his grandson, Brandon Welch, and served as his crew chief during the |
|---|
| 37 | 38 | | National Hot Rod Association's Mello Yello Drag Racing circuit in |
|---|
| 38 | 39 | | 2016; and |

| 39 | 40 | | WHEREAS, A loving husband, a devoted father and grandfather, |
|---|
| 40 | 41 | | and a highly regarded competitor in the racing world, Chuck Beal |

| 41 | 42 | | lived a full and generous life, and the memory of his energy, |
|---|
| 42 | 43 | | warmth, and enthusiasm will continue to inspire all those who had |

| 43 | 44 | | the good fortune to know him; now, therefore, be it |

| 44 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 45 | 46 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |

| 46 | 47 | | of Charles Beal and extend heartfelt sympathy to his family and many |
