| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The 95th birthday of an esteemed Texan is truly |

| 6 | 7 | | cause for celebration, and World War II veteran Julio Sosa of Laredo |
|---|
| 7 | 8 | | is reaching that impressive milestone on August 8, 2017; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Julio Sosa was born in Laredo in 1922, one of the six |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | children of Julio and Ramoncita Sosa; answering his nation's call |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | to duty, he served in the U.S. Army Air Forces from 1942 to 1945; |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, After helping to liberate the Philippines from the |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | Japanese army, Mr. Sosa was assigned to the American forces |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | occupying Japan, following its surrender on September 2, 1945; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, This brave American was among the first U.S. troops |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | to land in Yokohama, Japan, and he later served in Tokyo, as that |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | country began its transition to democratic governance; and |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Following his honorable discharge and return to |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | civilian life, Julio Sosa spent many years with the railroads, |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | serving as a switchman and brakeman for the Texas Mexican Railway |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | and as a train master for the Missouri Pacific Railway; and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Married in 1944, Mr. Sosa and his wife, Clementina, |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | were the proud parents of four children, Joe Sosa, Greg Sosa, |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | Dr. Rosalinda Sosa Bonilla, and Henry Sosa; and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of nine and a half decades, Julio |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | Sosa has courageously served his nation in a time of war, enjoyed a |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | long and successful career as a railwayman, and raised four |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | exceptional children, and as he celebrates this special day, he is |

| 29 | 30 | | blessed with the admiration and affection of his family and many |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | friends; now, therefore, be it |

| 31 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
