| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The members of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Pittsburg |

| 6 | 7 | | celebrated the 60th anniversary of their church's founding on July |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Established in 1954 as a mission of First Baptist |

| 9 | 10 | | Church of Pittsburg, this notable house of worship became an |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | independent entity on August 18, 1957; the congregation continued |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | to meet in the mission building on Mattison Street until 1963, when |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | it constructed a new sanctuary on Elm Street; after nearly half a |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | century there, the church moved to its current facility on Loop 179 |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | in 2012; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Since its founding, Emmanuel Baptist Church has |

| 16 | 17 | | played a vital role in the community, offering its members myriad |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | opportunities for spiritual growth and fellowship; the church also |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | takes part in a number of area ministries, providing children with |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | clothing, school supplies, and backpacks and preparing |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | Thanksgiving baskets for families in need; and |

| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, The congregation at Emmanuel Baptist has benefited |

| 22 | 23 | | from the able leadership of a number of dedicated pastors over the |

| 23 | 24 | | years, and today that tradition of service is continued by the |

| 24 | 25 | | Reverend Kyle Smith, who assumed the pulpit in 2001; and |

| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Emmanuel Baptist Church has long served as a source |

| 26 | 27 | | of inspiration and guidance to those who worship there, and its |

| 27 | 28 | | continued existence is a testament to the unwavering commitment of |

| 28 | 29 | | its members and clergy, both past and present; now, therefore, be it |

| 29 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 30 | 31 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commemorate the 60th |

| 31 | 32 | | anniversary of Emmanuel Baptist Church and extend to the |

| 32 | 33 | | congregation sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
