| 9 | 10 | | Jim Vasek was the son of Edward James Vasek Jr. and Mary Manno |

| 10 | 11 | | Vasek; he graduated as valedictorian of his class at La Grange High |

| 11 | 12 | | School and went on to receive his bachelor's degree in physics from |

| 12 | 13 | | Rice University before earning two master's degrees in physics and |

| 13 | 14 | | material science from the University of Wisconsin--Madison; and |

| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Vasek built a successful 23-year career in |

| 15 | 16 | | engineering with tenures at Motorola, Freescale Semiconductor, and |

| 16 | 17 | | NXP Semiconductors; along the way, he maintained an active |

| 17 | 18 | | lifestyle, which included mountain biking and completing many |

| 18 | 19 | | marathons, half-marathons, and triathlons; in his free time, he |

| 19 | 20 | | also enjoyed astronomy and volunteered extensively with Texas 4000 |

| 20 | 21 | | for Cancer, Head for the Cure, Sunshine Camps of Austin, and Rice |

| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, Mr. Vasek cherished his wife |

| 23 | 24 | | of 21 years, Heather, and their children, Jenna and Dylan; he was |

| 24 | 25 | | known for going out of his way to make others smile, and he enjoyed |

| 25 | 26 | | planning parties and celebrating the achievements of those around |

| 26 | 27 | | him; in turn, he was comforted by the support of his loved ones and |

| 27 | 28 | | colleagues while fighting a long and courageous battle with cancer, |
