H.R. No. 229 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the passing of Charlcie Nutt Phillips of Carthage on July 23, 2017, at the age of 98; and WHEREAS, The daughter of Charley and Delia Cassity Nutt, the former Charlcie Mae Nutt was born in Gary on May 19, 1919, and grew up with the companionship of her three brothers, Travis, James, and Alton; she went on to graduate from Gary High School and attended Panola College; on July 17, 1937, she was joined in matrimony to James William Phillips in Beckville, and the couple shared a rewarding marriage that spanned 63 years, until his passing in 2001; she was the proud mother of a son, Bobby James Phillips, and she was further blessed with three grandchildren, Christy, Cammy, and Cameron, and four great-grandchildren, Ryan, Rachel, Jeremy, and Matthew; and WHEREAS, During World War II, Mrs. Phillips lived with her husband in Beaumont, where he worked at the local shipyards; for much of her life, she was a resident of Panola County and an employee at Gary Gas; a woman of strong faith, she taught Sunday school at Eastside Baptist Church in Gary, and she later joined the congregation of First Baptist Church of Carthage; and WHEREAS, Over the course of a long and purposeful life, Charlcie Phillips left a lasting imprint on the hearts of all who treasured her, and they will forever remember her with deepest affection; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Charlcie Nutt Phillips and extend heartfelt sympathy to her relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Charlcie Phillips.
