| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Vernagene Mott's many contributions to the |

| 7 | 8 | | the dedication of Vernagene Mott Elementary School on October 21, |

| 8 | 9 | | 2017; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, A native of Pflugerville, Ms. Mott received her |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | education in the district's schools, and she graduated as |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | valedictorian of Pflugerville High School; after earning a |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | bachelor's degree with honors in mathematics from The University of |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | Texas, she enjoyed a successful 35-year career as a math and science |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | teacher in the Pflugerville ISD; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, In 2004, Ms. Mott followed in the footsteps of her |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | father, grandfather, and father-in-law when she was elected to the |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | Pflugerville school district board of trustees; now serving her |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | fifth term, she currently holds the office of board president; she |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | has also served on the board of directors of the Texas Association |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | of School Boards; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, This distinguished educator has further contributed |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | to her community through her extensive involvement in local civic |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | organizations; in recognition of all she has done to advance the |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | well-being of her hometown, she has been designated a Pflugerville |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | Legend by the Pflugerville Downtown Association and has been |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award and a Community |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | Builder Award by the Pflugerville Chamber of Commerce; and |

| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, In tribute to Ms. Mott's service to Pflugerville |

| 29 | 30 | | schools and the wider community, her colleagues on the Pflugerville |

| 30 | 31 | | ISD board of trustees voted in November 2016 to name the district's |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | newest elementary school in her honor; this state-of-the-art, |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | 109,000-square-foot facility features 50 classrooms and a library, |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | gymnasium, and cafeteria, as well as three playgrounds and |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | computer, art, and science labs; and |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Vernagene Mott has helped countless students to |
|---|
| 36 | 37 | | acquire a sound academic foundation and has given tirelessly of her |
|---|
| 37 | 38 | | time and talents in behalf of her fellow citizens, and she may |
|---|
| 38 | 39 | | indeed reflect with pride on her lifetime of public service as she |
|---|
| 39 | 40 | | receives this heartfelt honor from her community; now, therefore, |

| 41 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 42 | 43 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Vernagene Mott for |

| 43 | 44 | | her immeasurable contributions to the Pflugerville Independent |

| 44 | 45 | | School District and congratulate her on the naming of Vernagene |

| 45 | 46 | | Mott Elementary School in her honor; and, be it further |
