| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Houston City Council member Amanda K. Edwards is |

| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, This notable event is hosted by Catholic Daughters |

| 10 | 11 | | of the Americas--Mother of Love Court No. 2092 in Houston; |

| 11 | 12 | | established in 1974 at Resurrection Catholic Church and guided by |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | the CDA motto, "Unity and Charity," this group is composed of women |

| 13 | 14 | | from several local parishes who work tirelessly to promote social |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | justice and advance human rights; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Amanda Edwards serves as the at-large |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | representative in Position 4 on the Houston City Council, where she |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | is currently vice chair of the Budget and Fiscal Affairs Committee |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | and a member of the Economic Development and Transportation, |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | Technology, and Infrastructure Committees; focused on addressing |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | fiscal issues and the needs of the city's urban core, she brings to |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | her post a wealth of valuable experience gained through her work as |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | an attorney specializing in public finance matters; and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Edwards holds a bachelor's degree from Emory |

| 24 | 25 | | University and a juris doctor degree from Harvard Law School; she |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | served as a judicial law clerk in Louisiana before returning to her |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | native Houston to enter private practice and public service; active |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | in the community, she is the immediate past chair of Project Row |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | Houses and has served on the boards of several other nonprofits, and |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | her contributions have earned her numerous awards and recognitions |

| 30 | 31 | | from a host of publications; and |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, An engaged civic leader, Amanda Edwards has given |

| 32 | 33 | | freely of her time and talents for the benefit of her fellow |

| 33 | 34 | | citizens, and her dedication and generosity are an inspiration to |

| 34 | 35 | | all who know her; now, therefore, be it |
