H.R. No. 272 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to a close with the passing of Samuel Alvin White of Quitman on July 30, 2017, at the age of 88; and WHEREAS, Born to Oscar and Buena White on November 14, 1928, near the Cana and Myrtle Springs communities, Sam White grew up with the companionship of his three sisters, Oleta, Lavelle, and Ozella; after serving his country in Korea and Japan as a member of the U.S. Army, he returned to Quitman in 1954 to study machining and welding at Tyler Junior College; he subsequently took a job working in the oil fields for Caska, later known as Farmland Industries, where he enjoyed a successful career that spanned three decades; and WHEREAS, Mr. White was joined in matrimony to Jimmie Jo White, and they shared a rewarding marriage that spanned more than half a century before her passing in 2010; he was the loving father of two children, Shannon and Sheree, and with the passing years, he had the great pleasure of welcoming into his family four grandsons, Michael, Shawn, Brian, and Cody, and nine great-grandchildren, Brooke, Katelyn, Abbey, Macy, Taylor, Lainey, Samuel, Rylan, and Rhett; and WHEREAS, Strong in his faith, Mr. White was a valued congregant of Myrtle Springs Baptist Church; he was known for his dedication to helping those in need and for the many meals he cooked for such groups and events as the Quitman and Hainesville Volunteer Fire Departments, the Golden Sweet Potato Festival, and the Masonic Lodge; in addition, he had a delightful sense of humor and a talent for storytelling, as well as a passion for horticulture, history, and old Westerns; and WHEREAS, Sam White possessed a generosity of spirit that expressed itself in myriad ways, and memories of his boundless warmth and kindness remain to comfort and inspire those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Samuel Alvin White and extend heartfelt sympathy to his relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Sam White.
