H.R. No. 352
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Ernest Angelo Jr. of Midland has been named the
recipient of the 2017 Top Pioneer Award by the Permian Basin
Petroleum Pioneers; and
WHEREAS, An independent petroleum engineer since 1964,
Mr. Angelo serves as managing partner of Discovery Exploration and
invests in oil and gas exploration and production; he was named
Permian Basin Engineer of the Year in 1973, and three consecutive
U.S. secretaries of energy appointed him to the National Petroleum
Council; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Angelo is a member of the Pi Epsilon Tau and Tau
Beta Pi Honorary Societies, the Society of Petroleum Engineers, and
the Society of Professional Earth Scientists, and he has devoted
countless hours to the Texas Society of Professional Engineers,
where he has served as state director and Permian Basin president;
and
WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has also rendered outstanding
service in the public realm; elected to four terms as mayor of
Midland, he presided over the city government there from 1972 to
1980; in addition, he has held appointments to the Texas Higher
Education Coordinating Board, the Texas Public Safety Commission,
and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission; Mr. Angelo also
represented Texas on the Republican National Committee from 1976 to
1986 and guided Ronald Reagan's 1976 and 1980 presidential
campaigns in Texas; his numerous honors include the 1996 National
Public Service Award from the Society of Petroleum Engineers and
the 2008 John Ben Shepperd Leadership Foundation Texas Leader
Award; and
WHEREAS, For more than 50 years, Ernest Angelo has
contributed to the advancement of his industry and the betterment
of his city and state, and he is truly deserving of this prestigious
honor; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Ernest Angelo
Jr. on his receipt of the 2017 Top Pioneer Award from the Permian
Basin Petroleum Pioneers and extend to him sincere best wishes for
continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Angelo as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
