| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Brazosport Cares Food Pantry is celebrating 30 |

| 6 | 7 | | years of vital assistance to the Brazosport area on September 16, |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A group of local churches and concerned citizens |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | began organizing the Brazosport Cares Food Pantry in 1986, and the |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | inaugural board meeting took place on March 16 of the following |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | year; the pantry initially operated out of a facility in Clute, |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | where it saw 2,000 client interactions in its first year, and it |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | relocated to Freeport in 1996; the organization today serves a |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | number of communities, including Clute, Freeport, Jones Creek, Lake |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | Jackson, Oyster Creek, Quintana, Richwood, and Surfside, feeding an |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | average of 400 families each month; and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Guided by its mission statement, "Feeding |

| 18 | 19 | | Brazosport's hungry through food distribution, education, |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | collaboration, and advocacy," the food pantry has also established |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | and taken part in a number of outreach initiatives; it has provided |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | food to chronically hungry students in Freeport and Jones Creek |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | schools and to participants in the Brazosport College Jumpstart |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | Workforce program, and its Healthy Options Program for the Elderly |

| 24 | 25 | | has helped improve the nutrition and well-being of local low-income |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | seniors; and |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, With the worthy goal of alleviating hunger, the |

| 27 | 28 | | Brazosport Cares Food Pantry makes immeasurable contributions to |

| 28 | 29 | | area residents' quality of life, and it indeed merits special |

| 29 | 30 | | recognition for its achievements and service; now, therefore, be it |

| 30 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 31 | 32 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commemorate the 30th |

| 32 | 33 | | anniversary of the Brazosport Cares Food Pantry and extend to all |

| 33 | 34 | | those associated with the organization sincere best wishes for |
