5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their |

6 | 7 | | memories of Robert G. Neill Jr. of El Paso, who died on May 30, |

7 | 8 | | 2015, at the age of 70; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Bob Neill was born in Passaic, New Jersey, on June 4, |
---|
9 | 10 | | 1944, to Mildred Ziegler and Robert Neill, who served as a |
---|
10 | 11 | | lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army; the family lived in France, |
---|
11 | 12 | | South Korea, and Brownwood, Texas, before settling in El Paso in |
---|
12 | 13 | | 1957; Mr. Neill graduated as co-valedictorian of the Irvin High |
---|
13 | 14 | | School Class of 1962, and he went on to earn a bachelor's degree at |
---|
14 | 15 | | Colgate University; after receiving his law degree from The |
---|
15 | 16 | | University of Texas at Austin in 1970, he returned to El Paso with |
---|
16 | 17 | | his new bride, Rosemary Vivero; and |
---|
17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Neill began his career in the trust department |
---|
18 | 19 | | of the El Paso National Bank, where he rose to vice president; he |
---|
19 | 20 | | later opened a private practice in probate law, helping countless |
---|
20 | 21 | | clients over the years, no matter how difficult their cases and |
---|
21 | 22 | | regardless of their ability to pay; he was a founding member and |
---|
22 | 23 | | board chair of the El Paso Probate Bar Association, a fellow of the |
---|
23 | 24 | | Texas Bar Foundation, and a founding board member of the El Paso |
---|
24 | 25 | | Community Foundation; and |
---|
25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, From his college days in Austin until the end of his |
---|
26 | 27 | | life, Mr. Neill was a dedicated member of the Democratic Party, |
---|
27 | 28 | | helping to run campaigns, advising candidates and elected |
---|
28 | 29 | | officials, and fund-raising; he was twice a delegate to the |
---|
29 | 30 | | Democratic National Convention as well as a member of the State |
---|
30 | 31 | | Democratic Executive Committee and a co-chair of the state party; |
---|
31 | 32 | | in 2002, he helped bring the state convention to El Paso; and |
---|
32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, Mr. Neill shared 46 years of |
---|
33 | 34 | | marriage with his wife, Rosemary, and he once turned down a ride on |
---|
34 | 35 | | Air Force One with President Jimmy Carter to take his children, |
---|
35 | 36 | | Margaret and Alex, trick-or-treating; through the years, he took |
---|
36 | 37 | | great pride in his children's successes, and he later found immense |
---|
37 | 38 | | joy in spending time with his granddaughters, Olivia and Evelyn; |
---|

39 | 40 | | WHEREAS, Admired for his compassion, integrity, and good |

40 | 41 | | humor, Bob Neill lived a life rich in personal and professional |

41 | 42 | | achievements, and he leaves behind a record of service that will |

42 | 43 | | continue to inspire all who had the good fortune to know him; now, |

44 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

45 | 46 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |

46 | 47 | | of Robert G. Neill Jr. and extend heartfelt sympathy to his |

47 | 48 | | relatives and many friends; and, be it further |

48 | 49 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
