8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Launched in 2004, the National Day of the Cowboy is |

9 | 10 | | dedicated to the preservation, protection, and promotion of our |

10 | 11 | | Western heritage; organizers of the campaign seek to establish the |
---|
11 | 12 | | event as a permanent fixture on the national calendar to honor |
---|
12 | 13 | | cowboys and cowgirls for their vital contributions and their |
---|
13 | 14 | | courageous, pioneering American spirit; and |
---|
14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame and Museum |
---|
15 | 16 | | marked the occasion with many meaningful activities; the |
---|
16 | 17 | | opportunity to ride an American Quarter Horse is always a highlight |
---|
17 | 18 | | of the annual event, and over the past seven years, more than 1,200 |
---|
18 | 19 | | children have experienced their first such ride during these |
---|
19 | 20 | | festivities; in 2017, the introductory rides dovetailed with the |
---|
20 | 21 | | American Horse Council's 100-Day Horse Challenge, which increases |
---|
21 | 22 | | awareness of the benefits of equine pursuits; and |
---|
22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Other activities at the festival included barrel |
---|
23 | 24 | | races and charro demonstrations, readings of cowboy and cowgirl |

24 | 25 | | poems and stories, and the chance to meet horses and actors from the |

25 | 26 | | outdoor musical TEXAS; children also enjoyed making stick ponies |

26 | 27 | | and cowboy trail mix and creating their own cattle brands; in |

27 | 28 | | addition, a history interpreter acted the part of an 1890s cowboy |

28 | 29 | | while teaching visitors about frontier life; and |

29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, The importance and broad appeal of this observance |

30 | 31 | | was highlighted by the number of local organizations that partnered |

31 | 32 | | in its presentation, among them the Amarillo Convention and |

32 | 33 | | Visitors Council, the Amarillo Public Library, country music |

33 | 34 | | station 97.9 KGNC-FM, the American Charro Association, the |

34 | 35 | | Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum, Center City, and the Southwest |

35 | 36 | | Cowboy Poet Society; the event delighted, informed, and engaged all |

36 | 37 | | those who took part, and it is indeed appropriate that the American |

37 | 38 | | Quarter Horse Hall of Fame and Museum be honored for its outstanding |

38 | 39 | | work in staging this grand celebration; now, therefore, be it |

39 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

40 | 41 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend the American |

41 | 42 | | Quarter Horse Hall of Fame and Museum for its commemoration of the |
