45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame and Museum
67 commemorated the National Day of the Cowboy in Amarillo on July 22,
78 2017; and
89 WHEREAS, Launched in 2004, the National Day of the Cowboy is
910 dedicated to the preservation, protection, and promotion of our
1011 Western heritage; organizers of the campaign seek to establish the
1112 event as a permanent fixture on the national calendar to honor
1213 cowboys and cowgirls for their vital contributions and their
1314 courageous, pioneering American spirit; and
1415 WHEREAS, The American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame and Museum
1516 marked the occasion with many meaningful activities; the
1617 opportunity to ride an American Quarter Horse is always a highlight
1718 of the annual event, and over the past seven years, more than 1,200
1819 children have experienced their first such ride during these
1920 festivities; in 2017, the introductory rides dovetailed with the
2021 American Horse Council's 100-Day Horse Challenge, which increases
2122 awareness of the benefits of equine pursuits; and
2223 WHEREAS, Other activities at the festival included barrel
2324 races and charro demonstrations, readings of cowboy and cowgirl
2425 poems and stories, and the chance to meet horses and actors from the
2526 outdoor musical TEXAS; children also enjoyed making stick ponies
2627 and cowboy trail mix and creating their own cattle brands; in
2728 addition, a history interpreter acted the part of an 1890s cowboy
2829 while teaching visitors about frontier life; and
2930 WHEREAS, The importance and broad appeal of this observance
3031 was highlighted by the number of local organizations that partnered
3132 in its presentation, among them the Amarillo Convention and
3233 Visitors Council, the Amarillo Public Library, country music
3334 station 97.9 KGNC-FM, the American Charro Association, the
3435 Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum, Center City, and the Southwest
3536 Cowboy Poet Society; the event delighted, informed, and engaged all
3637 those who took part, and it is indeed appropriate that the American
3738 Quarter Horse Hall of Fame and Museum be honored for its outstanding
3839 work in staging this grand celebration; now, therefore, be it
3940 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
4041 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend the American
4142 Quarter Horse Hall of Fame and Museum for its commemoration of the
4243 National Day of the Cowboy and extend sincere appreciation to all
4344 those who participated in this noteworthy observance; and, be it
4445 further
4546 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4647 prepared for the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame and Museum as
4748 an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
