45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, After two decades of exceptional service to the City
67 of Cedar Hill, Rod Tyler is retiring from his position as planning
78 director on August 4, 2017, and the conclusion of his career
89 provides a fitting opportunity to reflect on the myriad
910 contributions of this esteemed professional; and
1011 WHEREAS, A graduate of The University of Texas at Arlington,
1112 Mr. Tyler holds a bachelor's degree in architecture and a master's
1213 degree in urban and regional planning; he began his career in public
1314 service with the City of Euless, where he worked for 17 years before
1415 being hired by the City of Cedar Hill in 1997; and
1516 WHEREAS, Over the course of his distinguished tenure in Cedar
1617 Hill, Mr. Tyler has played a vital role in a number of key projects,
1718 including overseeing the preparation of two comprehensive plans and
1819 a zoning ordinance rewrite; he also helped the city to effectively
1920 manage a construction boom in the first decade of the 2000s and,
2021 under his able leadership, the planning department has reviewed 132
2122 conditional use permits, 164 zoning changes, 271 site plans, and
2223 568 plats; moreover, he has been instrumental in furthering the
2324 City Center Plan, an initiative that is transforming the area into a
2425 more walkable, mixed-use destination that will encompass new
2526 commercial shopping venues and a park; and
2627 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Tyler enjoys the love and
2728 support of his wife, Kay, and he is the proud father of a daughter,
2829 Hannah, and a son, Travis; and
2930 WHEREAS, Rod Tyler's vision, ability, and dedication to
3031 excellence have helped make Cedar Hill an even better place in which
3132 to live, work, and raise a family, and he may take justifiable pride
3233 in his outstanding record of achievement as he embarks on the next
3334 exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it
3435 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
3536 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Rod Tyler on his
3637 retirement as planning director for the City of Cedar Hill and
3738 extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
3839 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3940 prepared for Mr. Tyler as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4041 House of Representatives.
