5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, After two decades of exceptional service to the City |

6 | 7 | | of Cedar Hill, Rod Tyler is retiring from his position as planning |

7 | 8 | | director on August 4, 2017, and the conclusion of his career |

8 | 9 | | provides a fitting opportunity to reflect on the myriad |

9 | 10 | | contributions of this esteemed professional; and |

10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, A graduate of The University of Texas at Arlington, |
---|
11 | 12 | | Mr. Tyler holds a bachelor's degree in architecture and a master's |
---|
12 | 13 | | degree in urban and regional planning; he began his career in public |
---|
13 | 14 | | service with the City of Euless, where he worked for 17 years before |
---|
14 | 15 | | being hired by the City of Cedar Hill in 1997; and |
---|
15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of his distinguished tenure in Cedar |
---|
16 | 17 | | Hill, Mr. Tyler has played a vital role in a number of key projects, |
---|
17 | 18 | | including overseeing the preparation of two comprehensive plans and |
---|
18 | 19 | | a zoning ordinance rewrite; he also helped the city to effectively |
---|
19 | 20 | | manage a construction boom in the first decade of the 2000s and, |
---|
20 | 21 | | under his able leadership, the planning department has reviewed 132 |
---|
21 | 22 | | conditional use permits, 164 zoning changes, 271 site plans, and |
---|
22 | 23 | | 568 plats; moreover, he has been instrumental in furthering the |
---|
23 | 24 | | City Center Plan, an initiative that is transforming the area into a |
---|
24 | 25 | | more walkable, mixed-use destination that will encompass new |
---|
25 | 26 | | commercial shopping venues and a park; and |
---|
26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Tyler enjoys the love and |
---|
27 | 28 | | support of his wife, Kay, and he is the proud father of a daughter, |
---|
28 | 29 | | Hannah, and a son, Travis; and |
---|
29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Rod Tyler's vision, ability, and dedication to |
---|
30 | 31 | | excellence have helped make Cedar Hill an even better place in which |
---|
31 | 32 | | to live, work, and raise a family, and he may take justifiable pride |
---|
32 | 33 | | in his outstanding record of achievement as he embarks on the next |
---|
33 | 34 | | exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it |

34 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

35 | 36 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Rod Tyler on his |

36 | 37 | | retirement as planning director for the City of Cedar Hill and |

37 | 38 | | extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
