| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Imogene Bethel of Lamesa passed away on July 13, |

| 6 | 7 | | 2017, at the age of 99, drawing to a close a long life filled with |

| 7 | 8 | | family, friends, and a wealth of warm memories; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A native of Center Point, Arkansas, the former |

| 9 | 10 | | Imogene Bedwell was born on April 26, 1918, to Levi and Norma |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | Bedwell and grew up with the companionship of a brother and three |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | sisters; after moving with her family to Quitaque, she met and fell |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | in love with Hal Reid Bethel, a regular customer at her father's |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | café; they were married in 1939 and became the devoted parents of a |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | son, Donald; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Following a stint as a chief operator for a local |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | phone company in Quitaque, Mrs. Bethel joined her husband in |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | purchasing the Reid Bethel Tire Store in Lamesa in 1945; the Bethels |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | built their home on 15th Street in 1955, and through the years, |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | Mrs. Bethel delighted in hosting numerous guests, with whom she |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | shared countless wonderful meals and rousing games of dominos and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | Skip-Bo; some of her favorite memories involved spending summers |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | with her family at Lake Stamford, taking RV tours around Texas with |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | her husband, and visiting Disneyland with her loved ones; and |

| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Strong in her faith, Mrs. Bethel was a valued |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | congregant of the First United Methodist Church, where she took |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | part in the Cal Wright Sunday school class, and she was also a |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | member of the Green Thumb Garden Club; moreover, she was an avid |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | reader and a dedicated fan of the Dallas Cowboys; and |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Imogene Bethel lived a rich and purposeful life |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | centered around her faith and her family, and she will long be |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | remembered with deep affection by all who knew her; now, therefore, |

| 33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 34 | 35 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |

| 36 | 37 | | family: to her son, Don Bethel, and his wife, Lynda; to her |
