5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Patience LeBlanc of the Frisco Independent School |

6 | 7 | | District has been named the 2017 Texas History Teacher of the Year |

7 | 8 | | by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Established in 2004, this prestigious award |

9 | 10 | | recognizes educators at the kindergarten through high school levels |
---|
10 | 11 | | for excellence in teaching American history; each state winner is |
---|
11 | 12 | | honored with a $1,000 prize and an invitation to a weeklong seminar |
---|
12 | 13 | | hosted by the institute, and the winners' school libraries receive |
---|
13 | 14 | | a core archive of history books and educational materials; and |
---|
14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Patience LeBlanc earned her bachelor's degree from |
---|
15 | 16 | | Texas A&M University in 1998 and her master's degree in history from |
---|
16 | 17 | | Texas Woman's University in 2016; she currently teaches eighth |
---|
17 | 18 | | grade U.S. history at Fowler Middle School, where she strives to |

18 | 19 | | make lessons interesting and memorable by dressing as historical |
---|
19 | 20 | | characters; she also aims to instill in her students an |
---|
20 | 21 | | understanding of the U.S. Constitution and its importance in their |
---|
21 | 22 | | lives; and |

22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, A leader in her district, Ms. LeBlanc has designed |

23 | 24 | | curriculum, conducted staff development seminars, and headed the |
---|
24 | 25 | | history faculty on her campus; in addition, she takes part in the |
---|
25 | 26 | | Citizen Bee civic education program, and she has been a forum |
---|
26 | 27 | | monitor for the James Madison Legacy Project of the Center for Civic |
---|
27 | 28 | | Education and a consultant to the State Bar of Texas Law Related |
---|
28 | 29 | | Education department; and |
---|
29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Through her boundless enthusiasm for her subject, |

30 | 31 | | Patience LeBlanc has brought American history to life for her |

31 | 32 | | students, and in so doing, she has helped them develop the critical |

32 | 33 | | thinking skills that will serve them well in the years ahead; now, |
