| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Don Wood is retiring from his position as |

| 6 | 7 | | superintendent of the Bushland Independent School District in |

| 7 | 8 | | January 2018, having rendered outstanding service to area students |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | over the course of his eight-year tenure; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Since joining Bushland ISD in July 2009, just after |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | the high school graduated its second class, Mr. Wood has guided the |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | district through a period of significant growth; along the way, he |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | has demonstrated sound fiscal management in dealing with budgeting |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | matters, and he has been instrumental in developing a five-year |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | strategic plan to continue the district's course for success with |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | the expansion of fine arts and career and technology education; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Following in the family tradition of service in the |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | field of education, Mr. Wood earned his bachelor's degree in |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | geology with a teaching certificate in composite science from West |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | Texas State University, and he began his career as a science and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | math teacher and coach at Highland Park ISD in Amarillo; he moved |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | into administration as an assistant principal before being hired as |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | a high school principal in Nazareth, and he continued to accept |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | greater responsibilities as a principal in Childress and as the |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | assistant superintendent for eight years in Muleshoe; and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Wood enjoys the love and |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | support of his wife of 30 years, Tonda, his three children, Lindsey, |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | Kasey, and Lane, and his two grandchildren, Taylor and Kelby, and he |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | has had the pride and satisfaction of seeing each of his children |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | pursue careers as public school teachers; and |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, The Bushland Independent School District has |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | benefited immeasurably from Don Wood's leadership, |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | professionalism, and commitment to the success and well-being of |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | area students, and his contributions will be remembered and |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | appreciated for years to come; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|---|
| 36 | 37 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby honor Don Wood for his |
|---|
| 37 | 38 | | dedicated service as superintendent of Bushland ISD and extend to |

| 38 | 39 | | him sincere best wishes for a rewarding retirement; and, be it |
