| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Police Chief Olga Maldonado has rendered |

| 6 | 7 | | exceptional service to the Mercedes Police Department over the |

| 7 | 8 | | course of her 30-year tenure with that agency; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Olga Maldonado began her career with the Mercedes |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | Police Department as a clerk in 1987, and within a year, she had |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | risen through the ranks to become a police officer; promoted to |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | sergeant and later to captain, she served along the way as a |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | detective in the major crimes unit and assisted with juvenile |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | cases; in 2004, she was named the city's first female chief of |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | police, and during her exemplary tenure in that role, she has helped |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | guide the Mercedes PD through a period of rapid growth; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan further serves her fellow |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | citizens as mayor of the neighboring town of La Feria, where she |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | grew up and graduated from high school, and she fosters community |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | bonds and seeks to help those who are less fortunate by spearheading |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | such annual events as back-to-school backpack giveaways, Easter egg |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | hunts, Halloween costume contests, and Christmas toy drives; and |

| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Olga Maldonado has demonstrated both skilled, |

| 23 | 24 | | visionary leadership and an inspiring commitment to strengthening |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | the fabric of her community, and she may indeed take justifiable |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | pride in all she has accomplished in behalf of her department and |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | the people of Mercedes; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Chief Olga |

| 29 | 30 | | Maldonado for her service to the Mercedes Police Department and |

| 30 | 31 | | extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success in her |
